Revelation -- Understanding the Apocalypse

The Book of Revelation #12 After a detailed study of the covenantal structure of the letters and the background of the cities where the churches were housed, it is very easy to lose sight of the overall picture What is the purpose of these letters and why were they given to John at the beginning of the Book of Revelation? Some theologians propose that the Letters and the rest of the book were two separate and unrelated visions glued together by a rather clumsy editor. I beg to differ. The supernatural reality of the Church as a meeting place of heaven and earth is a very fruitful key (strange image, I know... you think about it) for the Book of Revelation. What we discover in these letters is: Christ loves his Church so much he will use the world to constantly purify her and make her holy. We discover that Christ rules the world through his Church and He directs all the events of history to their final appointed end, free will notwithstanding. These notions may seem sterile at first or boring until you begin to live fully in the mystery of Christ, his bride, his one true love: the Catholic Church.
